Android Smartphones and DSLRs, too pieces of modern consumer technology that have made breakthroughs in each of their respective industries. Now the two can be united with the right cable and a little bit of software:
The typical DSLR has a pretty small LCD display, which had users and developers wondering if there was some way to leverage the ample display of your smartphone so you could have better control of your photos. Thanks to the developers over at Chainfire who’ve developed the DSLR Controller app, you can use your Galaxy S II, III, and a plethora of other Samsung devices (Note, Note 2, 10.1, etc.) as a full controller for your DSLR.
In addition to the obvious benefits provided by a larger liveview screen, the app gives you quick access to a plethora of features and settings ranging from auto-lighting optimization to luminosity and RGB histograms.
In order to use DSLR Contoller, you’ll have to throw down $7.99 for the beta app and get a USB on-the-go (OTG) host cable in addition to the typical USB-to-mini USB cable. If you want to run Mr. Shim’s setup seen in the above photos, you’ll have to buy some additional hardware like a tripod and phone/tablet clamp or mount.
